Teachers, outraged with PNoy’s decision on Marcos’ burial with full military honors

Pnoy surely wants his first year in office to be significant enough – he acceded to the proposal of Vice-Pres. Binay to grant a burial with full military honors to the late dictator Ferdinand Marcos.

“His parents must have turned from their graves upon hearing their son’s pronouncement and we, teachers were equally outraged too”, Ms France Castro, Secretary-general of Alliance of Concerned Teachers (ACT) said.

Pres. Benigno S. Aquino was  quoted  saying that he would honor the agreement between former Pres. Fidel Ramos and the Marcos family to bury former Pres. Ferdinand Marcos with full military honors in Batac, Ilocos Norte (“That was the commitment of former President Ramos between the state and the (Marcos) family. So the decision, in effect, was already done before I even got into office.”)

“We have closely watched the issue for a hero’s burial for Ferdinand Marcos.  This early, we are already contemplating on our next lesson plan on Araling Panlipunan.  And the truth should always be upheld,” Ms France Castro, Secretary-general of ACT said.

“Can you imagine how are we going to explain to our children this distortion of the genuine meaning of a hero with the blessings of our President no less? With PNoy’s decision to bury Marcos with full military honors, the more our people will distrust our justice system,” Ms France Castro, Secretary-general of ACT said.

If  PNoy wants to honor his parent’s legacy for fighting against Marcos, the dictator, he should  have stood for the glaring truth that Marcos is not a hero.

“His “personal bias” as his alibi bespeak of a weak leader. His personal bias is what this country needs to save us from another infamy. What an irony!” Ms.Castro pointed out.

By so doing, we hold PNoy principally responsible for the decision to bury Marcos with full military honors. As  teachers, even if DepEd and  his cohorts will re-write the books about a people’s indictment on Marcos, we will surely always teach our children about those dark days of Martial Law and that the hero’s burial for Marcos have been approved  during PNoy’s  term no less.

He should remember that his master is the Filipino people and a generation who suffered but valiantly fought and ousted Marcos, the dictator. PNoy owed us this one courageous act,  to say NO to a hero’s burial for Marcos, but again he failed us.” Ms.Castro stressed.###
